Jordan abounds with ancient cities - this tour covers the main ones.
Over the centuries, Jordan has been conquered and inhabited by major empires and each has left ancient cities and settlements. With your private guide, explore each of the major cities and castles along the Kings' Highway, finishing your tour at the Dead Sea.
Day 01 - Arrival Amman
Upon arrival, head to the Immigration Hall where you will be met by our representative. He will then escort you through Immigration and down to the luggage carousels. Proceed through Customs and our into the Arrivals' Hall where your English speaking guide will be waiting.
Transfer to your overnight accommodation in Amman, the capital of Jordan.
Day 02 - Amman, Jerash
After breakfast meet your guide in the lobby of your hotel. Travel north to the ancient city of Jerash for a guided tour. Begin by walking through Hadrian's Arch, visiting the Hippodrome, Greek temples, Roman Theatres, the Forum and colonnaded streets, Byzantine Churches, the Market and more.
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant (extra cost to participants) before returning to Amman.
Tour the old downtown area of the city before visiting The Citadel, the oldest settlement in Amman. Perched on top of one of the seven hills of Amman, see the Palace, Mosque, Byzantine Church, Greek Church, and cistern. Make time to visit the small but incredibly well stocked museum with items dating back to 6,000 BC.
Return to your hotel for overnight
Day 03 - Madaba, Wadi Mujib and Shobak Castle
Today we begin our journey south. Taking the Kings' Highway, an ancient caravan and pilgrim route, we will first travel to Madaba to view the mosaic map of the Holy Lands. Continuing along the Highway we will pass through Wadi Mujib Canyon to reach Shobak Castle.
Shobak will built by King Baldwin the I of Jerusalem and was the site of many Crusade battles; perched high above the surrounding countryside, it is here that Richard the Lion Heart lost to Saladin.
Travel on to Wadi Musa (Petra) for overnight.
Day 04 - Petra
The most famous location in Jordan and rightly so. After breakfast, join your guide to enter this Nabataean city, "lost for over 1,000 years".
Begin by walking through the hidden chasm (Siq) to reach the Treasury and the start of the city. Explore the Street of Facades, Roman Theatre, Royal Tombs, Great Temple, Temple of the Winged Lions and more.
After lunch you may decide to climb the 800+ stairs to the Monastery or climb to the High Place of Sacrifice for stunning views of the entire city.
When ready, return to your hotel via the Siq.
Overnight at Petra.
Day 05 - Kerak Castle and the Dead Sea
Today we will retrace our steps and stop at Kerak Castle, also buildt by King Baldwin I of Jerusalem. Wander through the different levels of this magnificent castle.
Descend al Sharah Mountains to reach the Rift Valley dividing Jordan with Israel. Following the Dead Sea, travel to it's northern shoreline to reach your resort hotel.
After you have checked in, the rest of the day is at leisure. At this time you will say "goodbye" to your guide.
Wander down to the Dead Sea and experience the feeling of weightlessness as you float in the highly bouyant and minerally enriched waters.
