THIS ADVENTURE IS INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED

4 NIGHTS/5 DAYS AT DISCOVERY ISLANDS LODGE

Welcome to one of the nicest waterfront accommodations for adventurous people! Located on Quadra Island, Discovery Islands Lodge offers easy access to an un-crowded paradise of clear sheltered ocean, marine parks, abundant wildlife, spectacular rainforest, and towering mountain vistas.

On this adventure, our group gets full, exclusive use of the top two floors of the lodge, shared access to the dock and downstairs. There are six regular rooms that have two single beds, one double bed, or single bunk beds. Maximum 2 people per room. Beds provided with clean bottom sheet, pillow, pillow case. There are two showers with hot & cold running water, and there is also a wood fired sauna on the dock.

The kitchen is equipped with most dishes and cookware to prepare and serve meals for large groups such as; medium-sized fridge/freezer unit, propane stove with oven, enough pots, pans, bakeware, dishes, serving dishes, cutlery, glasses, etc. to prepare and serve most meals for large groups. Basics like a coffee grinder, carafates, drip cone & filters are included. There is a BBQ if you like to cook outside.

This is an off-grid location and primarily powered by solar panels with a backup gas generator. There is usually enough electricity to charge cameras, phones, and laptops. High draw electrical items with heating elements such as coffee makers, toasters, and hair dryers, cannot ever be used. We are not able to charge electric vehicles at this time.

Hot water is provided via on-demand propane heaters. We are committed to being part of the global effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Please help us by minimizing hot water use.

Discovery Islands Lodge is in a remote location. Ambulance service is at least one hour away. A trip to the hospital may take several hours, especially at night, and stresses limited emergency services. Please use caution around the water, when walking on slippery decks, always use lights/flashlights at night, and avoid excessive use of alcohol.

Fire safety: We are located outside the Quadra Island fire protection area. We take fire prevention very seriously. Oven, cookstove, & BBQ’s should be monitored continuously when in use. Check that they are turned off when finished!

Your guide will review all the site amenities and functions upon arrival as well as provide reminders for safe use where necessary.

MEET YOUR SUP LEADER

Hi! I'm Pam!

I am a certified Paddle Canada SUP Basic & Advanced Flatwater Instructor, as well as a Coastal Touring 1 Instructor. My goal is to share a love of the ocean, from the perspective of paddling and ocean literacy in order to foster connections between people and between people and the sea. My teaching style emphasizes safety & technical skills while having fun in a positive, supportive environment.

Having studied Marine Biology at the University of Guelph & Commercial Photography at Sheridan College, I am blending my passions through teaching SUP in BC and ON. My love of the water has led me to many aquatic pursuits - canoeing as a child, competitive sailing, sprint canoe/kayak racing and long-distance Outrigger Canoe racing before discovering the sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding.

OCEAN SCENERY

If we get lucky, we may see some wildlife! This is a Pacific Harbour Seal, AKA Phoca vitulina richardsi. Did you know that the large eyes of harbour seals are protected by oily “tears” that help them see in deep dark waters? We will be paddling in a biodiverse region of BC so our chances for viewing a variety of sea birds and marine mammals is pretty good!
