Welcome to Sidney by the Sea!

Feed your soul and get away with your girlfriends (or meet new ones) while exploring the spectacular Saanich Peninsula coastlines. Running over 3 days, this coastal adventure will offer you the best of foods, accommodation and leisurely stand up paddleboarding in an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie. Only minutes from the Victoria International Airport and Swartz Bay ferry terminal you will find the luxurious The Latch Inn, our base for the next 3 days.

We begin our paddling journey in charming Sidney-by-the-Sea, where your historic, seaside accommodation is located. Over the weekend you will stand up paddleboard and explore places like Glass Beach, where you can beachcomb for coloured glass, polished by time and tide; picturesque Tod Inlet, and the iconic Southern Gulf Islands resplendent in marine life and white shell beaches. Activities will include gentle yoga, peaceful meditation, wild swimming and of course... laughter.

Each day we will take a paddling journey to show you the wonders of the Saanich Peninsula. You will also have free time each day to either relax at The Latch Inn, wander around the Sidney waterfront, or visit popular sites like the Salish Sea Centre.

After busy days on the water, you and your friends can relax by the sea, enjoy tasty dinners at local restaurants, and kick back around a warming fire. If you want to reconnect with nature and others, become a better standup paddler, and come away feeling rejuvenated with your heart full, this is the retreat for you.

If you’re ready for a fun, active girls’ weekend - this is it!

This girls weekend is focused on connection, restoration and fun while still including active adventures via SUP.  You will thoroughly enjoy this adventure if you feel comfortable with water, swimming, gentle yoga and stand-up paddling at an easy pace for 2-2.5 hours per day in calm conditions. We do want to keep things age-appropriate so for this weekend, 18+ is preferred unless you have a private group.

The picturesque town of Sidney by the Sea is situated within the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ people on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. The community is located along the shores of the Salish Sea on the Saanich Peninsula amidst the Gulf Islands with Mount Baker standing in the distance.

The Latch oozes an old-world elegance and charm. Once the playground for the upper crust, it hosted sumptuous garden parties and welcomed visits from dignitaries and royalty. Edward, the Prince of Wales, and his brother George enjoyed the classy and comfortable accommodation in a state tour of British Columbia in 1927. In the 1940s, it became known as "The Latch", reflecting that every door in the house was opened with a latch and iron key.

Rich in history, every room at The Latch is unique and full of character, each with its own distinct narrative. Rooms have been upgraded to provide the modern comforts expected from a top-class hotel. Come experience the old-world seaside charm of The Latch Inn in Sidney.

Hi! I'm Pam!

I am a certified Paddle Canada SUP Basic & Advanced Flatwater Instructor, as well as a Coastal Touring 1 Instructor. My goal is to share a love of the ocean, from the perspective of paddling and ocean literacy in order to foster connections between people and between people and the sea. My teaching style emphasizes safety & technical skills while having fun in a positive, supportive environment.

Having studied Marine Biology at the University of Guelph & Commercial Photography at Sheridan College, I am blending my passions through teaching SUP in BC and ON. My love of the water has led me to many aquatic pursuits - canoeing as a child, competitive sailing, sprint canoe/kayak racing and long-distance Outrigger Canoe racing before discovering the sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding.

If we get lucky, we may see some wildlife! This is a Pacific Harbour Seal, AKA Phoca vitulina richardsi. Did you know that the large eyes of harbour seals are protected by oily “tears” that help them see in deep dark waters? We will be paddling in a biodiverse region of BC so our chances for viewing a variety of sea birds and marine mammals is pretty good!
