Overview
Join us for a Getaway to Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna this December!
Our Getaways are designed to offer greater flexibility so you can customize your time with our support, all while enjoying the community vibe of a group tour.
The Christmas Markets will be in full swing while you're visiting. They provide a great way to learn about local culture as you search for local crafts, toys, and gifts. The other big draw is the wide array of scrumptious local cuisine, both savory and sweet, as well as beverages that will warm your hands and your heart.
While the temperatures might be chilly, there is still so much to see and do in these lively cities. History, art, and science museums abound. Hopping between cafés, wine bars, and bier halls is always a good idea. Quality local transportation systems and walkable city centers allow for eco-conscious daily adventures.
Each hotel you'll stay at is 4-stars, centrally located, and within minutes of a subway or tram station. We've carefully curated a selection of optional experiences you can choose from: a Sound of Music bus tour, a Mozart Concert at Mirabell Palace, and a Women Winemaker Wine Tasting. In addition you can opt to extend your trip with two nights in Prague!
Note - This tour will operate with a minimum of 6 travelers. We recommend not purchasing your airfare until we have notified you that this minimum has been met. We will do so by October 7 at the latest.
FAQs:
Q: I am not a big shopper and/or not someone that celebrates Christmas, will I enjoy this trip?
A: Absolutely! While many stalls sell festive decorations and gifts, just as many are there to provide opportunities to enjoy regional food and drinks. The ambiance, coziness, and culture of these markets are fun to take in and learn about. Plus, our included walking tour in Munich and the multiple optional experiences you can add on are not markets-focused. The markets are visited during your free time and if they don't interest you, we have lots of recommendations for other things to do in each city!
Q: What are the rigors on this tour?
During our guided city walk in Munich there will be about two miles worth of walking and not many opportunities to sit. The cities visited on this itinerary have areas that will include cobblestone streets, narrow sidewalks, and there may not be as many public restrooms as what you are used to at home. Due to the nature of taking trains between our destinations, you should be able to step with your luggage from the platform onto and up the steps without assistance, as well as load your luggage into the storage space.
Q: I don't live in a cold place and am worried I don't have the appropriate attire for this trip, what should I wear?
A: Layers are the most important part of packing for any trip. A fleece jacket under a waterproof raincoat is always a great way to warmly layer, without having to purchase expensive jackets that you don't think you will wear again. A quality hat, mittens, and scarf will really help. Footwear is the key! Waterproof, lined boots that you have broken in will keep your feet warm, dry, and comfortable as these cities are very walkable.
Q: I don't have a traveling companion to share my room, can I still join?
A: We have an for woman and non-binary travelers to sign up as a solo traveler and we will pair you with a roommate. If someone else doesn't end up booking the other bed, there will be no extra cost to you.
Q: Where can I learn more about Detailed Journeys?
