Wittenberg, with Lutherhaus and Castle Church (Schlosskirche), forms a historic ensemble integral to Martin Luther's life, encompassing the place where he posted the Ninety-Five Theses, his residence, the church where he married and later baptized his children, and the church where he is buried, collectively embodying the birthplace of the Reformation.

In Erfurt, St. Mary's Cathedral, also known as Erfurt Cathedral, stands as a magnificent example of Gothic architecture, while the Church of St. Severus serves as a collegiate church for the regular canons of St. Augustine, offering a glimpse into the religious history of the city; additionally, the Merchant's Bridge and the Augustinian Monastery (Augustinerkloster), where Martin Luther was ordained into the priesthood, contribute to Erfurt's rich cultural and historical heritage.

Strasbourg

We'll start the day at the University of Strasbourg to hear the story of the scholar Martin Bucer, former adversary turned friend. Bucer was originally a member of the Dominican Order, but after meeting and being influenced by Martin Luther in 1518 he arranged for his monastic vows to be annulled.  He best known for his ceaseless attempts to make peace between conflicting reform groups

Saint-Thomas Church - a focal point of the Reformation movement, with its renowned pastor, Martin Bucer, advocating for reform within the Catholic Church and promoting Protestant teachings

La Petite France

Strasbourg Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, reflecting the religious and political tensions of the Reformation era, with its intricate carvings and stained glass windows depicting scenes from biblical narratives and Reformation themes.

Konstanz

Where Jan Hus was burned and the Reformation found the middle ground. Jan Hus would posthumously be seen as a hero of the faith and role model by Martin Luther, who referred to him in person as he pushed for renewal of the Church 100 years later.

Zurich

Zurich was the first city to embrace the Reformation and became the cradle of the Reformed Church. In 1519 Huldrych Zwingli came to Zurich to work as a pastor and began preaching a new interpretation of the Word of God. Five Zurich churches played key roles during the Swiss Reformation: the Grossmunster, Fraumunster, Predigerkirche, Wasserkirche and St. Peterskirche.
