Day 1 — August 27 | San Jose

Arrival and Central Valley Orientation. Airport pickup and hotel check-in. Welcome dinner: private farm-to-table dinner. Tour overview and relocation briefing. Neighborhood map and context session.

 

Arrival: Fly into Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San Jose. Your guide will meet you at the airport. Plan to arrive by early afternoon on August 27 to allow time for transfer, check-in, and the welcome dinner.

Day 2 — August 28 | Escazu and Beyond

Neighborhoods, Infrastructure, and Urban Life. Avenida Escazu and Los Laureles walkthrough. Nunciatura and La Sabana deep dive. Schools, hospitals, markets, and daily life. Afternoon: Farm-to-Table Foodie Tour in Barrio Escalante with tastings, coffee, and mixology workshops.

 

Fitness Level: This tour includes walking through neighborhoods, markets, and cultural sites. Moderate walking ability is expected. No strenuous physical activity is required.

Weather: Late August in Costa Rica is rainy season. Expect afternoon showers, especially on the Caribbean coast. Pack accordingly — light layers, rain jacket, waterproof shoes.

Currency: Costa Rican Colones (CRC) and US Dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas. ATMs are available in all areas we visit.

Day 3 — August 29 | Grandview Estates

Intentional Community: See It in Person. Full community tour hosted by Melanin Tours founder Celeste Lawson. Meet the builder and lender on the ground for build package, financing, and construction overview. Lot viewings and community layout walkthrough. Vision session: gym, yoga, coworking, food garden. Q&A with current residents and community board (subject to availability). Evening dinner and onward to Puerto Viejo.

Explore the Caribbean Coast. Based in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. Afro-Roots walking tour through Limon's history, culture, and gastronomy. Caribbean neighborhood walkthroughs. Expat community introductions. Dinner: Caribbean coastal cuisine.

Day 5 — August 31 | Dia de la Persona Negra

Grand Parade de Gala in Limon. Dia de la Persona Negra y la Cultura Afrocostarricense. Grand Parade de Gala with floats, music, and Afro-Caribbean culture. Day 6 — September 1 | Departure

Departure: The tour concludes September 1 with a private chauffeur transfer from Puerto Viejo back to SJO. Book an evening departure on September 1 or any time on September 2.
