We are at a pivotal point in the U.S. with the continued struggle for civil rights, economic rights, and basic human rights. We stand on the shoulders of countless brave soldiers in the struggle for equality and we must know their stories for ourselves and keep their legacies alive for future generations. This tour takes us on a journey from Atlanta to Memphis and brings to life challenges and victories of the Civil Rights movement of the mid 20th century.

Upon arrival at the airport in Atlanta, you will be met by your Tour Manager and be escorted to your private motor coach. Your tour begins with a visit to the CNN Food Court in the heart of downtown Atlanta. Here, you will enjoy lunch on your own in the food court which offers a variety of dining experiences, from fast casual to full-service.
Next stop is a visit to the National Center for Civil & Human Rights, a museum dedicated to the achievements of both the civil rights movement in the U.S. and the broader worldwide human rights movement.
Transfer to your hotel and check in. Relax and recharge at the Sundowner reception at the hotel from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm.

Depart for Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park where you will begin your Journey on a Civil Rights Tour of Atlanta: Visit the tombs of Dr. King and his wife, Coretta Scott King, then the famous Atlanta Student Movement Rush Memorial Church to the graves at South-View Cemetery of Daddy King & John Wesley Dobbs. At stops you will see close up the house Dr. King lived in at the time of his assassination and where Coretta raised her four children, then Dr. King's birth home and the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where MLK Jr. was baptized and both he and Daddy King preached. There will be a chance to stand in front of the crypt of MLK & Coretta Scott King. See Paschal’s Restaurant, where, in the front dining room, morning politicos helped elect Atlanta’s first black mayor, Maynard Jackson.
Other sites include: Ralph Abernathy’s West Hunter Street Church, the mural of John Lewis on Auburn Avenue and the office on Auburn Avenue where MLK, Abernathy, Andrew Young and Hosea Williams made decisions that changed the world, Edgewood Avenue-Sweet Auburn Market, State Capitol and City Hall, the King Memorial (US Parks Service), SCLC & SNCC Freedom House, Morehouse College, historic Hunter Street (MLK now), and Magnolia Ballroom.
After the tour you will depart with a boxed lunch as you head to Birmingham.
Take a guided tour of 16th Street Baptist Church, site of a supremacist terrorism bombing before Sunday morning services on September 15, 1963 at the predominantly black congregation. The bombing killed four young girls in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement.
Visit the Civil Rights Institute, a large interpretive museum and research center that depicts the struggles of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s
Afterwards, head to the Freedom Rides Museum which used to be the Montgomery Greyhound Bus Station building, site of a violent attack on participants in the 1961 Freedom Ride during the Civil Rights Movement.
Enjoy dinner included at Martha’s Place Soul Food Restaurant, a Southern eatery featuring all-you-can-eat buffet.

Today’s tour begins with a visit to the Dexter Parsonage Museum (outside only), where Martin Luther King, Jr. lived in the 1950s.
Visit the National Memorial for Peace & Justice, a memorial that commemorates the victims of lynching in the U.S. It is intended to acknowledge past racial terrorism and advocate for social justice in America.
Visit The Legacy Museum. The Equal Justice Initiative, the Montgomery-based non-profit organization that challenges racial injustice and mass incarceration of blacks, sponsors two memorials that spotlight the history of lynching during post-Civil War Reconstruction and Jim Crow eras. The Legacy Museum on Coosa Street displays horrific photos of the publicized hangings which often drew crowds of spectators.

Next, you will head to the Rosa Parks Museum on the Troy University satellite campus. See exhibits and artifacts from the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott.

Depart the hotel and start your morning at the Lowndes Interpretive Center, which serves as a repository of information for the tragic and significant events that occurred in Lowndes County during the Selma to Montgomery march.
Learn about the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail. On August 6, 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which extended equal voting rights for African-Americans. As both White and Black non-violent supporters led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for the right to vote in Central Alabama, today, you can trace their march toward freedom on the 54-mile trail.
At your next stop, you will take a walk across the Pettus Bridge, site of the brutal bloody Sunday beatings of civil rights marchers during the first march for voting rights. It is named after Edmund Pettus, a Confederate brigadier general, Democratic U.S. Senator and grand wizard of the Alabama Klu Klux Klan
Visit the National Civil Rights Trail Selma Interpretive Center, located at the foot of the Pettus Bridge, marking the beginning of the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail.

Located at the original Lorraine Motel, site of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1968 assassination, this award-winning museum traces the history of the American Civil Rights Movement and honors its' leaders through interactive displays, artifacts, hands-on exhibits and audiovisual programs. The recent $11M expansion involves the renovation of the Young Morrow building where the fatal shot was fired. "Exploring the Legacy" brings the history that followed King's assassination into the tour.

Visit Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum, a 19th-century home once part of the Underground Railroad featuring tunnels, trap doors and artifacts.
