Upon arrival into Panama City, you will be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax and enjoy the area. This evening, you and your fellow travelers will be taken to a local restaurant for a Welcome Dinner.

Head out to the first island to enjoy dinner at Ranchito in the open air restaurant with great views of Panama City. Eat some great Panamanian food, reminisce about the old Amador Beach and enjoy the evening sunset.

High in the mountains of Panama lies the picturesque town of El Valle de Anton (the Anton Valley), which occupies the largest inhabited volcano crater in the world. This quiet town is a popular weekend getaway, with beautiful trails for hiking and bird watching.

• The El Valle Tour departs at 8:00 am and returns at 4:00 pm.
• The drive to El Valle takes about 1 ½ hours from Panama City, and once there, you will be able to experience much that this beautiful town has to offer.
  • Visit the crafts market, which has a diverse range of flowers, fruits, and vegetables, and crafts handmade by the villagers.
  • Enjoy a walk through the rainforest for a visit to the El Chorro Macho Waterfall (The Male Waterfall), a spectacular 35-meter waterfall with a natural lagoon at its base.
  • No trip to El Valle would be complete without a visit to Butterfly Haven. Immerse yourself in the beauty and tranquility of hundreds of jewel-colored butterflies. Stroll through the screened tropical exhibit house and grounds and learn about these amazing creatures. 
• 8-hour tour from 8:30am - 4:30pm

This tour is sure to be one of the highlights of your trip to Panama. The Embera people are one of seven indigenous tribes in Panama, and this tour will give you a fascinating look into their way of life.

• Board a Piragua (a dug-out canoe) and travel upriver with an Embera guide along the Chagres River.
  • You will be transferred from your hotel to the Chagres River to begin the tour.
  • When you arrive at their community, you will be welcomed by tribal members dressed in their traditional clothing and escorted past their huts and into the community area.
  • The chief of the village will teach you about the history of the tribe, their originpans, and their lifestyle.
  • The Embera will gladly demonstrate their native dances, their beautiful craftwork, and their cooking skills.
  • You will be served a delicious lunch of fried plantains and tilapia fish, one of their traditional favorites.
  • You will also be able to shop for their handiwork if you would like.
  • If you are in good shape and can hike, you will have the opportunity to take a short hike over rocky terrain to a crystal-clear waterfall for a refreshing swim, and then return by boat to the bus and back to your hotel.  Please note, the sequence may change with waterfall first depending on weather and village request.

• Start your day with a visit to the ruins of Panama’s first capital, known as Old Panama or Panama La Vieja. This city was founded in 1519 as the first Spanish settlement on the Pacific Ocean. Spanish expeditions to conquer other South American colonies left from here and returned with vast quantities of gold, attracting the attention of pirates like Henry Morgan. When this notorious pirate looted the city in 1671, the whole city was destroyed by fire, but the ruins of several impressive structures remain to this day. You will see the ruins of the Spanish fortress, as well as a museum detailing what life was like in Old Panama.
• Next, you will travel to Casco Antiguo, the Colonial City, for a walking tour to explore the historic center of the modern capital going through restoration as a UNESCO site. 
• Following lunch (optional), you will head through the former “Canal Zone” to see the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center. This includes the entrance to the museum and access to the viewing locations. From the observation deck, you can watch the fascinating process of ships as they cross the Panama Canal through the locks.
• 8-hour tour from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm 
• Intensity level – low (except walking tour is moderate)

You will be met at your hotel at 8:30 am for a tour of the Atlantic side of Panama. On this tour, you will visit the new Agua Clara locks, built to accommodate the Panamax ships.  The tour ends with a visit to Portobelo, a sleepy little fishing village which once was the greatest Spanish port in Central America. After lunch at a local restaurant (priced separately), return to Panama.

No trip to Panama would be complete without a visit to the Panama Canal, Panama’s most popular tourist destination. This voyage through the canal has various start times, so budget the entire day.   After being transferred to the pier, you will board the ferry boat, a vessel that will take you through the Miraflores Locks, Pedro Miguel Locks, and the Culebra Cut. The Culebra Cut (called this because it twists and turns like a snake), is a fascinating geological area where the canal was carved through the Continental Divide. This area is susceptible to landslides, and you will appreciate the amount of work required to maintain it. During your voyage, you will be able to see the huge ships traversing the canal and the tugboats assisting them, as well as the up-close operation of the canal. Traveling through the locks, you will enjoy the experience of being raised or lowered to the level of the other ocean. You will disembark at Gamboa Pier and be transferred by bus back to Flamenco Pier. Here you will meet your representative for transportation back to the hotel.

Aerial Tram

• Experience the magic of the rainforest from a different perspective with an Aerial Tram Tour. Glide through the forest's canopy, from the shadowy rainforest floor through the understory, and into the sun-drenched canopy.
• You will be accompanied by a guide on this mile-long trip, who will describe the flora and fauna that you will see.
• The tram ascends 280 feet over half a mile and ends atop a hill. Take the short hike and climb the 12-story Observation Tower where you will have a panoramic view of the Chagres River and the Panama Canal.

Gatun Lake Expedition w/ Lunch

• Take a boat tour through the Panama Canal into secret waterways to find hidden islands that are home to various species such as the Capuchin Monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas, turtles, sloth, and a large variety of birds.
• The adventure begins at the private dock of the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, where you will navigate via the Chagres River and the Panama Canal, to Gatun Lake, one of the biggest artificial lakes of the world.
• This tour is ideal for nature lovers who will be charmed by the aquatic life while enjoying the wonderful rainforest. 
   

Trapiche Dinner

•  A fun evening of entertainment and “comida tipica”! 
• You will be picked up at 7:30 pm at your hotel for a transfer to Las Tinajas Restaurant, which gets its name from a clay pot used to keep drinking water fresh.
• This is an authentic Panamanian restaurant housed in a charming old colonial house, with a menu based on traditional Panamanian recipes.
• Your dinner will be followed by a show about Panamanian folklore and local dances. You will enjoy the beautiful costumes worn by the dancers; elaborately stitched traditional clothes, with gold and pearl hair combs and jewelry inspired by traditions from as long ago as the 1500’s.  
• Resort casual attire required.
