Exploring South Africa, including safaris, tribe visits, and local experiences, requires specific mobility considerations for a comfortable trip.

1. Safari Vehicles: Safaris use specially equipped 4x4 vehicles. These have high steps, so a moderate level of physical mobility is necessary to get in and out of these vehicles. We offer a mobile step to assist you to get into the vehicle. Please note that you will be getting in and out of the vehicle several times a day (for rest stops, meals, shopping, etc.).

2. Walking on Uneven Terrain: Safari and local cultural experiences involve short walks on uneven ground to explore specific areas. Good mobility helps navigate these paths.

3. Long Drives and Bumpy Roads: A reasonable level of physical stamina is beneficial for safari drives, which can last several hours. It's essential that you are comfortable with sitting for extended periods and are able to handle the rugged, bumpy roads.

4. Footwear: Wearing sturdy, comfortable footwear is important for managing the terrain. A good pair of sneakers or hiking shoes is a must-have on this trip. 

If you have specific mobility needs, it's crucial to communicate these to Overton Travel at the time of booking. We may be able to make special accommodations, such as providing steps for the vehicles, arranging for certain room types, or offering assistance with activities.

You can exchange U.S. Dollars for South African Rand (ZAR) at your bank prior to departure.

You can also obtain local currency from ATMs located throughout South Africa, including at airports, shopping centers, banks, and major tourist destinations.

Banks, hotels, and exchange bureaus may exchange U.S. Dollars for ZAR, although exchange rates may vary.

Credit & Debit Cards: MasterCard and Visa credit cards are widely accepted throughout South Africa, particularly at hotels, lodges, restaurants, shops, and tourist attractions. American Express may not be accepted by all merchants and should not be the only credit card you bring. Check with your credit or debit card company regarding merchant acceptance and available travel services.

Prior to departure, you may need to inform your bank and/or credit card company that you will be traveling to South Africa. Make sure you know your PIN if you plan to withdraw cash from an ATM.

Please check with your bank for any foreign transaction fees that may be charged for using your card abroad.
