Laos by Poss and Ruby - November 2025

Welcome to Luang Prabang! Our Guide and Driver will transfer you to your hotel and assist with check in.

After you've had time to settle in, head off into the old town for an orientation walk - see the gorgeous heritage buildings, now housing boutiques and cafes, plus the many temples.

Explore the Night Market and enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a beautiful Lao restaurant on the riverfront.

Your guide will use this time to run through the plans for the week.

Head out after breakfast with your guide to discover the spiritual and cultural roots of Luang Prabang. You will visit Vat Mai, and then it’s a short walk to explore the National Museum, formerly the old “Royal Palace.” 

Today, enjoy lunch at the social enterprise, Khai Phaen, and the after lunch go to the TAEC - The Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre. The Centre is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of ethnic minority groups in Laos and showcases traditional arts, crafts, and customs.

From here, you'll head to the UXO Centre, which offers insights into the issues Laos faces with unexploded ordnance.  

Next we visit the “older water melon temple”, Wat Visounarat. This temple dates back to 1513 and was named after King Wisunarat (Visoun), who ruled Laos from 1501 until 1520. It’s the oldest Buddhist temple in Luang Prabang and serves as the city’s Museum of Religious Arts. 

Late in the afternoon you arrive at the Big Brother Mouse Centre. This is a special chance to meet young Lao people wanting to learn English, it's a two-way street, you get to ask questions about Laos and their culture and the young people get to practise their English. Tip: speak slowly! And no need to bring anything with you. The English session goes for 2 hours (from 5 - 7pm) and then you can return to your hotel for dinner or stay in the Old Town and explore further.

Today we begin after breakfast, about 9am you'll visit the Heaun Chan Heritage House - a traditional wooden house dating back to the 19th Century. It serves as a small museum showcasing the lifestyle of the area, with a cafe and handicraft centre. 

We will board a private boat for the day, firstly visiting Ock Pop Tok Living Arts Centre and Restaurant where you can see silk woven into beautiful pieces before your very eyes. After a beautiful lunch with a view over the river, we return to our private boat to continue our journey cruising up the Mekong to visit Pak Ou Buddha Caves. Set into the dramatic limestone cliffs at the confluence of the Mekong and Ou Rivers, these caves are home to over 4,000 Buddha images. We will visit two caves, the lower Tham Ting Cave and the upper Tham Theung Cave. Both caves serve as shrines to the river spirit and Lord Buddha and have been visited by pilgrims over many centuries. On our cruise we’ll stop at the Whisky Village and the Mulberry Paper Village, ending the boat trip with a sunset on the river.

You are free to enjoy dinner near the hotel or head into the old town and explore further.

It's a slightly earlier start today, we will leave the hotel around 8am after breakfast to get a head start on everyone else!  It's a 30 minute drive out through the countryside to reach the stunning Kuang Si Waterfalls. 

The turquoise waters of Kuang Si flow over many limestone rocks on their way from the mountain springs to the main waterfall and then down the cascading pools and on into the Mekong River. Limestone particles in the water which contain high levels of calcium carbonate reflects light making the water appear a stunning turquoise-blue colour. Pack your bathers, we have the chance to go swimming here!

We will enjoy a picnic lunch at the falls and on our walk down from the falls we will visit the Free the Bears Centre which is home to more than twenty Asiatic Black Bears. These bears have been rescued from an array of dire circumstances and now can live torture free at the Centre.  

On our way back to town, we make a brief stop at the Lao Buffalo Dairy to enjoy their famous buffalo milk ice-cream! 

From here we enjoy a countryside drive to Na Ouane village to visit the Hmong Exhibition which highlights the Hmong culture and daily life. They will demonstrate how to use traditional agriculture tools, play traditional musical instruments and cook traditional Hmong cuisine. 

You will have some free time before heading off for your evening cooking class at the beautiful Tamarind cooking school.

t’s an earlier start this morning. Leaving at your hotel at 5:00 am we will take up a position on the street where we will view the traditional Alms Giving Ceremony. From there we will take a walk through the Morning Market where you will had the opportunity to sample some of the traditional foods, snacks and sweets on sale. 

As we come out of the market we will make our way down to the river bank to sample a traditional Lao breakfast of Lao coffee and noodle soup at the Pa Sa Nee Yom Local Restaurant. 

After breakfast you can return to your hotel where the rest of the day is free for you to explore.

You might like to explore the Old Town further, or take a weaving workshop offered by the Arts & Ethnology Centre. Or perhaps spend a half day with elephants at the Mandalao Elephant Sanctuary, or shop for handicrafts and silk scarves, chill out by the pool or take a tour of the Living Rice Farm. 

Re-group this evening for a final dinner together at Little Lao Culture Bar and Restaurant. (Dinner is included but drinks are at your own expense)
