Consisting of pans, floodplains, lagoons, grasslands, forests of acacia trees, savannahs and dense Mopane Woodlands. This is what makes Moremi Game Reserve such an exceptional part of the world.

This unique ecosystem makes for a diverse spectrum of wild life. Being in a protective wildlife area the results are impressive with huge herds of impala and tsessebe. The dry season also brings large herds of buffalo, wildebeest, elephant and zebra that move into the reserve from the dry lands of the Kalahari in search of both food and water. Sitatunga and lechwe live in the papyrus banks of the waterways with lions, cheetahs and packs of wild dogs that hunt in the open grasslands. With over 400 species of birdlife in the Moremi area, of the Okavango’s species of birds you will find the African Fish Eagle, Crested Crane and Sacred Ibis. This vast array of mammal, bird, insect, plant, fish and reptile species have adapted to the Okavango Delta’s swamp conditions.

Day 2: Moremi Game Reserve - Xaxanaka

An early start with breakfast around the campfire. Today we have the freedom to head in any direction that takes our fancy. On safari it is important to be flexible and to allow your days to be dictated by the movement of the game rather than the time.

The papyrus beds surrounding the lagoon are home to the rare sitatunga antelope whilst the waters resound to the cry of the fish eagle. Pods of hippos and basking crocodiles and often find an old bull elephant deep in the water feeding on the lush reed beds. Enjoy evening sundowners observing the setting sun over the lagoon whilst gently floating past flocks of herons and egrets as they fly into their nightly roosts.

Days 3 - 5: Moremi Game Reserve - Khwai

Location : Khwai, Botswana

After breakfast we will make our way towards Khwai which is situated in the north eastern part of the Okavango in the Moremi Game Reserve. The Khwai Concession is an 1800km (180 000 hectare)  formed by local Khwai villagers and is currently managed by the Khwai Development Trust.

Lagoons are covered in white and blue water lillies and areas of Mopane forests cover the landscape. Woodland species such as Camelthorn and Knobthorn are quite intriguing, here we look for the rare species of Roan and Sable antelopes. The Khwai River is a sanctuary for wildlife coming down from the drier areas of the Linyanti, bringing a high concentration of wildlife.

As the day draws to a close the evening light is perfect for photography and our afternoon drive will offer some beautiful images and surely some wildlife action as the predators raise themselves from their slumber.

Days 6 -7: Savuti

This morning after breakfast enjoy game viewing enroute to our next camp in Savuti (Savute as it is also known). The area borders the Okavango to the east and Chobe National Park to the west, renown for its high concentration of wildlife. The game-viewing can be exceptional, mainly with predator sightings. Large herds of buffalo, zebra and elephant can also be found.

Savuti is well known for its mysterious channel flowing a distance of 100 kilometers from the Chobe River to the Mababe Depression. The Rhino Vleiand Marabou Pan are two of the best water-holes for wildlife sightings.

For the next two days enjoy all that the Savuti has to offer. Tonight sit by the fire and reminisce on the adventures and sightings that you have had over the past few days. Drift off to sleep listening to the sound of lion and hyena calling in the distance.
