There are no words to describe the feeling you get as you watch the majestic Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat. You are so aware that you are on their turf and guests in their home. This is such a special experience and the emotion of that can take you by surprise.

Besides the amazing experience of the Mointain Gorillas and the Golden Monkeys you also get to experience the kistory of one of the most fascinating countries on the planet.

The history of Rwanda dates back centuries, Kigali has been a part of it for 100 years. Founded in 1907 as a German settlement, Kigali did not become the capital until Rwanda’s independence in 1962 when it replaced the colonial seat of power in Butare. 

Visit the old Kigali and the craft centres then visit the genocide memorial site. Learn about Rwanda’s history from pre-colonial times to the 1994 genocide. Learn about other genocides in the world and how this country has dealt with that past. Tour more and see the new developments in Rwanda, the recovery has been incredible, a testament to humankind’s resilience.

Day 1 - Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, our representative will warmly meet you outside the airport arrivals area and transfer you to your hotel.

Day 2 - Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

This morning enjoy breakfast at the hotel then proceed on a city seeing tour of Kigali. (Cost of city tour included)
On completion of the Kigali City tour enjoy lunch in Kigali. Later in the afternoon depart Kigali and drive to Ruhengeri, a 2.5 hrs drive arriving at the Volcanoes National Park in the early evening. Once you have checked in take in the artistic style of the lodge before a sumptuous dinner.

Day 3 - Volcanoes National Park – Golden Monkey Trekking

This morning enjoy an early breakfast at your lodge. At 0630 hrs you will be transferred to the Volcanoes National Park Headquarters. After briefing depart for the golden monkey tracking returning at the lodge in time for lunch. This afternoon enjoy a cultural tour with a visit to the local village and experience the way of the local people. This will be crowned by traditional Ibyiwac’u dancers. Return back to the lodge for dinner.

Volcanoes National Park is home to the golden monkey, side-striped jackal, serval, black-fronted duiker, buffalo, elephant, tree hyrax, bushbuck and Egyptian mongoose. A variety of squirrel and genet species are also to be found here. Of the 178 bird species in the area, at least 13 are endemic to the Virunga area such as Archer’s robin chat, mountain black boubou, strange weaver, Rwenzori batis, mountain masked apalis and Rwenzori (collared) apalis.

Day 4 - Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trek

Enjoy early morning breakfast. At 0620 hrs: Transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for your first day of Gorilla trekking at 0700 hrs. A briefing will be done by your trackers then drive to the trail head for the start of your amazing Gorilla Tracking adventure. Porters may be hired for the trek to carry your backpack and gear. The cost is 10 USD per person/per day. We advise that you utilize this service.

Day 5 - Kigali

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before departing from foothills of the volcanoes and start the scenic drive to Kigali. Everything and everywhere, sheer green and hanging on the hills, Rwanda truly is a land of a thousand fertile green hills. The drive takes approximately 2.5 hrs. Transfer to Kigali International airport for your onward journey.
