Temples to Dragons Indo Adventure
An incredible 'Out of Bali' adventure.
Bali is the number one tourist destination in Indonesia and yet it is just a small drop in a vast ocean of incredible sights that Indonesia has to offer.
We are bringing you the BEST of our Dragons Cruising tour of Flores and the Komodo islands on board a luxury traditional Phinisi (wooden schooner) AND taking you back in time to when Indian traders bought trade and religion to the Kingdom of Java with the ancient ruins of Borobudur and Prambanan to explore.
Check out the video below to get a good feel for this trip.
Day 2- Borobudur and Prambanan
900 years ago Indian traders formed the trade link between the Spice islands and the west and along with trade items they also brought their religion.
Borobudur is a stunning Buddhist temple complex set in a stunning valley. It is the largest Buddhist monument in the world and though millions of tourists visit Bali each year, only a handful make it here. Not far from Borobudur are the Buddhist temples of Mendut and Pawon - Between Mendut and Borobudur stands Pawon temple, a jewel of Javanese temple architecture. Most probably, this temple served to purify the mind prior to ascending Borobudur
Prambanan is a Hindu complex very similar in style to Angkor Wat - the carvings here are deeper and more detailed than those at Angkor. It is from here that the Hindus left Java and made their way to Bali.
Day 3- Old Yogjakarta
Yogjakarta has some fantastic sights to explore. We will visit the Underground Mosque with it's ancient but effective cooling system plus there's time for a massage or a ride through the rice fields near the hotel.
(The water temple inside the mosque)
Yogjakarta is a fascinating city and, to be honest, requires a week or more to fully explore. We will visit Malioboro street for some great shopping and food. But there are also some very interesting sights just outside of town that are quirky and fun which we would love to visit - but we can decide on what to do as a group when we are in town.
In the afternoon we will fly back to Bali and overnight at the Novotel Airport hotel ready for our early morning flight to the Komodo Islands
Day 4 to 7 - Komodo Islands Sailing Adventure
Today we get up early and fly to Labuan Bajo. We board our boat and spend the next three days cruising through the Komodo islands.
We will see the Komodo dragons, snorkel stunning coral reefs, visit Manta Alley to swim with the Manta Rays (obviously the Mantas are wild creatures but the last 3 tours we saw them twice).
Along the way there are rugged islands to explore and volcanic ridges to climb. On our return to Labuan Bajo we will visit an island of Sea Gypsies and an interesting pearl farm - shopping at sea.
Click on DETAILS on the left navigation panel if you would like to see a day to day breakdown of our trip in the Komodo islands. In the meantime let's explore our home on the seas.
We have a luxury traditional sailing boat called a Phinisi as our home.
Although she has sails, it's the diesel engine that gets us from point A to B. The good news is her 4 double cabins are air conditioned and have ensuites.
There is a fantastic dining space on the foredeck and space on top for relaxing as well.
All snorkelling gear is provided so all you need is a sarong and t-shirt and you're all set for this leg of the journey.
Day 7 - Return to Bali
Today is our final day.
Along our way back to Labuan Bajo we will pass Mesa island which is home to a village of sea gypsies - the islands if wall to wall ramshackle houses and a mosque and rarely visited by tourists.
For a light bit of shopping there is a fantastic pearl farm on the next island over and they are happy to give us a tour of their facilities plus a visit in their showroom too - bargain priced pearls and champagne - perfect.
We head arrive mid afternoon for our flight back to Bali arriving around 5.30pm.
You can fly back to Australia on later flights today or continue your holiday in Bali.
