Portugal's Fisherman's Trail Women's Hiking Adventure

Our trip begins on the morning of May 28, 2025 with a group rendezvous at your Lisbon hotel. Your 4-star hotel will be provided for the night of May 27th, but we won't start the trip as a group until the morning of May 28th.

You'll meet the group and your guides in the hotel lobby before we take off to discover together the town of Lisbon during the morning. After lunch (not included), we will transfer by charter bus the 2.5 hours to our rural boutique hotel near Zambujeira. This old farm was converted into a boutique hotel with cottage like rooms facing the swimming pool or ecological vegetable garden. Some even have partial views of the Atlantic coast. A perfect place to recover from jetlag and rest before our week begins. Dinner will be at the hotel restaurant “Touril & Celso”.

This morning we'll start off with a 15 min taxi transfer to the village of Almograve. We'll pack a lunch with local snacks and fruits to keep us fueled during our walk. Our path takes us along the foot path "Rota Vicentina", which takes us along the coast, via the tiny village of Cavalheiro and the lighthouse at Cape Sardao. As we head back to our hotel, we'll enjoy the spectacular views from the cliffs.

The second stage along the Rota Vicentina alternates sandy footpaths through rolling dunes, stony footpaths across rocky shores where storks nest and dirt roads wind though a horticulture area with. The famous Fado singer Amalia Rodrigues used to spend her summers in this area in a villa. During our walk, we'll stop to enjoy a salad-and-seafood lunch at Azenha do Mar. Todays’ walk ends in the typical whitewashed village of Odeceixe, on the border of the Alentejo and Algarve provinces. If you'd like, we can stop to enjoy a drink or two in the village square before we walk the last 1 mile to our accommodation in the outskirts of the town. But mind that it's a steep uphill (hence, careful with the wine!)

There is no better way to start the day at Praia do Canal than with a yoga class on the terrace from the hotels’ in house yoga instructor; directly at sunrise and before breakfast. Afterwards, we continue our exploration of the Costa Vicentina with a walk to the surfers’ beach Bordeira, close to the charming fishermen’s village of Carrapateira. We will stop for lunch (not included) at the village bar Cantinho da Bordeira before heading to the most white and sandy beach of the entire route. Don’t forget to bring your swimming suit with you! Before we return to the hotel by taxi, we have the opportunity to visit the ethnographic museum of Carrapateira to learn more about the land and the people. Dinner will be at the hotel.

Our last day of walking takes us to the most south-western corner of Europe, The Cape San Vicente. After a 30 min drive, we will start walking from Vila do Obispo to a totally different landscape- very flat and cultivated at first, and then it turns surprisingly wild and rugged, with karstic limestone rocks near to the end. At windy Cape Sao Vicente, we will enjoy for the last time the 180 degree views of the ocean before saying goodbye to our local guide and getting on the bus that will take us back to Lisbon.
