The group will meet on September 7, 2025 at the Zagreb Airport at 1pm, then we have a 2.5 - 3 hour drive to our first destination in Slovenia: Lake Bohinj. You’ll have time to relax, settle into the hotel near the lake, and go for a swim before we meet back up for a welcome dinner.
After breakfast at the hotel, we have a 30 minute drive to the starting point for our hike in Triglav National Park. Protected since 1924, Triglav is one of Europe’s oldest parks and is the only national park in Slovenia. Starting from the Pokljuka Plateau, we’ll hike through larch forests and grassy slopes to the summit of Visevnik, located 6,726 feet above sea level. Along the way, we’ll enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Julian Alps and Mt. Triglav, the park’s namesake and Slovenia’s highest peak. We’ll have a picnic lunch along the way or at the summit. If we’re lucky, we may spot some wild chamois or Alpine ibex from the trail.
After the hike, we’ll drive 30 minutes to one of Slovenia’s most iconic destinations - Lake Bled. You can choose to relax on your own in this fairytale-like setting, visit the 1000-year-old Bled Castle, or join the guide for a semi-short hike to an overlook above the lake featuring one the best views Bled has to offer. We’ll return to Bohinj for the evening and have dinner together.
Today we’ll continue hiking in Triglav National Park, also known as the Kingdom of Zlatorog. You’ll learn about this mythical golden-horned chamois, which, according to Slovene folktales, reigned over this mountainous territory. Our hike starts in Planina Blato and takes us through Triglav’s Seven Lakes Valley. The trail winds through meadows, forests, and alpine pastures with traditional wooden shepherds’ cottages. As the name suggests, we’ll also see a series of beautiful alpine lakes surrounded by the Julian Alps’ jagged peaks. Part way through our route, we’ll refuel with a traditional Slovenian mountain lunch at a hut next to one of the lakes.
In the morning, we’ll meet with a local women’s artisan association in Bohinj to learn about some traditional and modern Slovene handicrafts. We’ll then say goodbye to Bohinj and make our way to Croatia’s Istrian peninsula (3 hour drive), our base for the next three days. Nicknamed “Croatian Tuscany,” the region is famous for its vineyards, olive groves, and forests that yield high quality wines, olive oils and truffles.
Upon arrival in Istria, we’ll visit a local women-run winery, take a stroll through the sun-drenched vineyards and taste a variety of Istrian wines. We’ll have a light lunch featuring local cheeses, prosciutto and other cured meats, homemade bread, and olive oil at the winery.
Next, we’ll head to the charming hillside town of Motovun (15 minute drive) and settle into our hotel. You’ll have some free time to relax and take a swim in the pool before we meet back up as a group. We’ll take a short walking tour of the old town center and will have dinner together at sunset overlooking the Mirna River Valley.
This is a unique opportunity! Your guides will be a local third-generation truffle hunting family. You’ll learn the regions history of truffle hunting, followed by a taste of homemade truffle liqueur. If you’re a dog lover, you’re in luck. Trained truffle hunting dogs will accompany us as we walk through the forest with them to see how truffles are foraged. After you’ve worked up an appetite, enjoy a cooking demonstration where you’ll learn how to prepare several truffle dishes before enjoying a delicious lunch with truffles and wine.
We'll return to the hotel in the afternoon, and you'll have the rest of the day to spend on your own. You can relax at the hotel, read by the pool, get a massage or other spa treatments at the wellness center, or explore Motovun.
After breakfast in Motovun, we’ll leave inland Istria and head towards the coast. Our destination is Rovinj (1 hour drive), one of Croatia’s most stunning seaside towns. We’ll get to enjoy gorgeous views of the town and its Venetian architecture on a sea kayaking tour. Our route will take us around the old town and to a small island called Sveta Katarina, or St. Catherine Island. The island was owned by an Austrian Archduke and is known for its small castle and gardens, which are home to over 450 different species of plants and trees. We’ll take a break on the island before paddling back to our starting point on the mainland. If you’d like to get a snack or lunch during the break, there is a beach bar with a restaurant on Sveta Katarina.
In the afternoon, we’ll get settled into our hotel and you’ll have some free time before dinner. You can choose to relax at the hotel, swim in the sea, or explore the town on your own before we meet back up as a group.

We’ll walk along the park’s paths and wooden bridges that wind past the waterfalls, stopping for a picnic lunch in this scenic natural area.Â
After the park visit, we’ll make a stop at the Plitvice Art Farm to taste some local products like honey, pumpkin oil, cheese, sausages, and Croatian spirits called Rakija. We’ll spend the night just outside the park and will enjoy one last dinner together, filled with specialties from Croatia’s mountainous Lika region, such as grilled meats, spit-roasted lamb, trout from the local rivers, or seasonal vegetarian dishes.

INTERNATIONAL deposits and cancellation policy:
Travel is a big commitment — and so is planning, designing, and hosting a trip. So we’ve built a policy that can be flexible for our Travelers, while still protecting the work that our Hosts and Trip Operators do at each stage of the process. A 50% deposit is required to hold your spot.
Our international cancellation & refund policy is set out below:
180 days (6 months) or more before the trip start date: Full refund minus a 15% cancellation fee based on the full trip amount;
179-91 days (3-6 months) before trip start date: Full refund minus a 25% cancellation fee based on the full trip amount;
90 - 0 days (0-3 months) before trip start date: No refunds, no exceptions. 50% of your deposit can be transferred to another trip departing within a calendar year of the canceled trip.
THIS TRIP IS CONFIRMED! If the trip / retreat does not meet the minimum # of participants 90 days before the trip start date the trip will be canceled and full refunds will be issued. Any refund shall be made less any platform, transaction and processing fees that have been incurred. *If purchasing your airfare prior to this, we recommend purchasing a refundable ticket.
To ensure your experience is unforgettable much of our planning is finalized in the months leading up to your trip. Scheduling of guides, permits, hotels, food planning, goodie bags, and all the little things that make our trips great are planned well in advance. Cancellations within the 180-day window incur costs that we cannot recoup. Last minute cancellations within 90 days are even harder as we often cannot fill the vacated spot on short notice. Our cancellation policy ensures the best possible experience for everyone.
We strongly recommend purchasing Cancel For Any Reason coverage as part of your travel insurance policy.
