On our seven-day journey, you'll immerse yourself in the rich warmth and hospitality of the Timorese people, experience incredible local culture, and explore stunning landscapes. Together, we'll engage with education leaders across Timor-Leste, gaining insights into the sector's challenges and aspirations for the future. This is an exceptional opportunity for professional development, as it allows school leaders to directly engage with the education sector in Timor-Leste. We'll be organising meetings with local educational leaders with visits to local schools and educational development programs. You'll gain invaluable insights and learn firsthand about the great work local educators in Timor-Leste are acheiving and the challenges they face. This immersion will enhance your knowledge and skills, fostering a deeper understanding of global educational dynamics.
This program is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of how to run a successful immersion program, offering plenty of opportunities for networking with fellow school leaders passionate about cultural exchange and international development. By the end of this trip, you'll be well-prepared and confident in your ability to collaborate with Timor Unearthed, bringing unique and enriching immersion experiences to your school community. Please note that space in this program is limited.

The cost of this 7 day immersion is $1000.00 AUD per person.

On the immersion you’ll get to know our passionate team, Anas, Manuela, Zetania, Romeu, Norberto and Alex.. Most of our staff have graduated from local universities with tourism or business degrees and are all experienced guides that understand the ins and outs of working with school and university groups. Our programs are an opportunity for young Timorese to follow their dreams in the tourism sector, and share their culture and story. Alex is based in Brisbane and manages all the preparation and coordination for your school program to Timor-Leste. You can read more about our staff profiles on our website. Since 2017, we’ve welcomed hundreds of high school and university students to Timor-Leste on immersion and study tour programs. Watch the videos below for an insight into our programs and to hear from past student travellers.
Touch down in beautiful Timor-Leste, and be greeted by our team at the airport. We'll transfer you to the hotel and introduce you to the rest of the group. Today we will do an orientation in Dili, visit historical and cultural sites including a short walk up to the Cristo Rei statue. You'll get to know our incredible team of passionate Timorese tourism leaders and fellow school leaders travelling with us. We'll enjoy a welcome dinner at a restaurant overlooking Dili city.

Over these 3 days we'll travel to a rural community in the mountains of Timor-Leste. This will be a unique opportunity for you to dive deep into the local culture, lifestyle, and community spirit of Timor-Leste. We'll meet with local community leaders, and engage in meaningful conversations, to show you an insight into the traditional practices day-to-day life of the community. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the education system in Timor-Leste by visiting local schools and educational groups. This is a unique opportunity to observe the challenges and achievements of educational endeavors in rural settings, interact with students and educators, and learn about the aspirations for the future of the community. We have strong connections with many communities across Timor-Leste, which we partner with to provide authentic and immersive cultural experiences for our students.

Today we'll embark on a captivating journey through the heart of Timor-Leste, beginning with a scenic drive up the Tatamailau mountain range. Stop at Projeto Montanha for lunch, an establishment aimed at improving local lives through education and sustainability. Settle in Maubisse town, for an immersive experience with the local community and visits to community projects. The next morning, we'll rise early for a hike up Mt. Rabelau's to witness a breathtaking sunrise and cultural dance ceremony. We'll take time as a group to debrief and reflect on the experience so far. This journey offers a blend of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and insight into local sustainability efforts. We'll return to Dili the day before your departing flight.

In the morning, we'll hold the programs pre-departure briefing before heading off. Today, you'll be guided by our local staff to historical sites in Dili city and museums, to gain an understanding of Timor-Leste's fight for independence. Learning about Timor-Leste's history and culture is an important part of our school immersion programs, and a valuable experience for students to understand the close relationships between Australian and Timorese history. For lunch we'll be joined by representatives from Timor-Leste's education department who will share their understanding and experience of education in Timor-Leste. In the afternoon, we'll visit a beachside cafe where our local team will provide an overview of our risk management process, to provide you with an understanding on how we safely faciliate our programs.
