After arriving into Melbourne, we collect our hire car ready to embark upon our Great Ocean Road adventure!
The first stage of our Great Ocean Road adventure will take us from Melbourne down to the seaside town of Apollo Bay.
Driving time is around 3 hours. Along this journey, you will stop off at iconic spots along the coast! These include:
Torquay: Known as the gateway to the Great Ocean Road, Torquay is the perfect place to pull over after the long drive from Melbourne. Along with its quaint small seaside town charm, Torquay is known as Australia’s surfing capital and has spectacular beaches to match.
Bells Beach: A little further down the Great Ocean Road from Torquay is one of Australia’s most famous surf beaches, Bells Beach – home of the Rip Curl Pro. We will enjoy the breath-taking beach views and for our film fans, we can visit where the famous action film Point Break was filmed!
Anglesea: A very short seven miles further down the coast, we will arrive at the town of Anglesea. Along with its spectacular lookout points such as Point Roadknight, Anglesea is a great place to stop for a bite to eat.

After lunch, we will take a short ten-minute drive to Aireys Inlet, home to one of the most iconic symbols of the Great Ocean Road – Split Point Lighthouse.
Next, we are off to Lorne, which takes approximately 20 minutes. We will visit the must-see sight that is Erskine Falls – a majestic waterfall a few miles inland. We will also visit Teddy’s Lookout.
Bringing our first day of sightseeing to a close, we travel to Apollo Bay to check into our accommodation for 2 nights.
We will enjoy a leisurely breakfast together before we explore Apollo Bay.
The shoreline between Lorne and Apollo is the one of the most scenic. The shoreline near the Wye River is known to attract whales during the latter half of the year and we will explore Cape Patton lookout to see if we can spot any!
We will stop for pancakes at Waves (143 Great Ocean Rd, Apollo Bay, Victoria 3233 Australia).
After lunch, we will visit the historic working lighthouse, which offers fantastic views of the ocean and surrounding coastline from its topmost lookout.
We will enjoy breakfast together before checking out of our Apollo Bay accommodation ready for our next adventure!
Otway National Park: Journeying west from Apollo Bay, we will pass the halfway point of the Great Ocean Road and come to one of Australia’s southernmost points, the Cape Otway Lighthouse and the Otway National Park.
We will drive through this scenic park, with many opportunities to pull over and enjoy the lush rainforest greenery and natural beauty surrounding the road. Before leaving Otway Fly Tree Adventures, we will enjoy lunch in the cafe.
We will eat lunch at the Otway Fly Treetop Adventure Park cafe before leaving for the next stage of our journey.
Lavers Hill: We will visit to Lavers Hill on our way to the 12 Apostles. This small yet charming town is unassuming in itself but worth the stop for the views from Crowes Lookout. Being on such a tight schedule, Lavers Hill is also a great place to stock up on snacks.
Following breakfast, we will check out of our accommodation and make our way to the The Twelve Apostles.
This landmark is up there as one of the Great Ocean Road’s most iconic and famous sites, no road trip would be complete without a visit to the Twelve Apostles. This collection of limestone stacks have become the tourist hotspot on the Victoria coast and with good reason. We will visit the viewing platform and walking trail it get the best view of the amazing rock formations of the world famous natural wonder.
Before saying farewell to the 12 Apostles, we will grab some lunch at the 12 Rocks Beach Bar. 19 Lord St, Port Campbell 3269.
